Welcome to West London Strings

Looking for a string orchestra in West London in the Hammersmith and Fulham area?

Formed in 2009, West London Strings is a very friendly amateur string orchestra which enjoys playing string music on Monday evenings. Susanna Wilson is our inspirational conductor and we also benefit from being led by a professional on the first violins, violas and the cellos.

There are no auditions and all over 18s are welcome.

Music is chosen to suit the membership and we work on a range of pieces, from pre-baroque to 21st century, in a non-pressurised and supportive environment.

Come and see what we do by joining us for a no commitment session before you sign up. You can contact us using the form on the site menu.

Our Conductor:

Susanna Wilson

We are very fortunate to have Susanna Wilson as our conductor. Following her studies with Florence Hooton at the Royal Academy of Music, and post-graduate study with Raphael Wallfisch, Susanna has had an extensive career as soloist, chamber musician and freelance orchestral musician, performing at venues as diverse as The Barbican, The Bath Assembly Rooms, Norwegian Cruise Liners and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Susanna was conferred with Associateship of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) to recognise and celebrate her significant contributions to the musical landscape and specifically music education in 2025

Susanna is currently also a tutor for The East London Late Starters’ Orchestra and the Mary Ward Centre as well as enjoying regular invitations to tutor at Morley College and the City Lit.

Eliott Bougant (Leader)

Eliott was born in England and moved to France when he was six, where he started learning the violin. He went on to get his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Royal College of Music, studying with professors Maciej Rakowski and Itzhak Rashkovsky. Eliott has always been passionate about contemporary music, premiering and performing dozens of pieces for solo violin and electronics, including some of his own. This passion led him to two consecutive invitations to play with the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra. He is currently freelancing in London.
